How do you select books for a person you've never met?

 

We have decades of experience putting the right book in the hands of our customers.  We also invite your recipient to give us feedback about their reading preferences.

 

 

Our initial book selection is based on the information that you give us when you purchase a Series gift subscription and complete the preference form on our website. Fill it out to the best of your abilities, and pay special attention to mentioning a few books that your recipient has enjoyed in the past. Our trained booksellers will choose a book based on those likes and dislikes, and with that first selection your recipient will receive a detailed preference form that they can complete and return to us.   That helps guide us as we make future selections.  We also include instructions on how your recipient can complete or change his or her preferences online in the Recipient Center. 

Our selections are based on everything about your recipient -- their hobbies, interests, preferences, and background -- and we work hard to make certain that each book we select is something new and exciting, a special gem that they might not have found on their own or an introduction to a great new author. 

 

I'd like to know what books you're sending to my recipient -- is that possible?

Definitely! You will be providing your email address during the checkout process and we automatically sign you up to receive an email notification when we ship a Library or individual titles in Series to your recipient.  You may unsubscribe to this email by unchecking the box in the Account section on the Purchase History page. [Remember that you must be logged-in to access the Account section.] We will send you an email each time a book is shipped giving you the title and author of the book selected for your recipient.  You can also see the entire list of books sent to your recipient by visiting your Account page.

I've given the Series as a gift; can I request that you send a particular book even after the gift has commenced?

Yes, you certainly can:  in the Account area you may send us an email by clicking the "Send us Feedback" link.  We'd be delighted to ship a particular book to your recipient upon request. 

 
I gave the Series as a gift last year, and my recipient loves it! How will I know when it is time to renew the gift?

We’re so glad! When it is time for your gift to be renewed, we will send you a reminder by email along with a link to quickly and easily renew your gift. You can also renew at any time in the Account section of the website (please remember you have to be logged-in to access the Account section).

Does every book in the Series arrive gift-wrapped?

This is a special, year-round gift so we wrap each book we select for your recipient in our signature gift wrap and include our Just the Right Book bookmark.

 

Why are the Library collections available for kids and babies only?

We are planning to expand our Library collections in 2010, but for now they are only available for babies and children.   

When do I find out what books you sent?

As soon as the books in your gift ship to your recipient (within 5 business days of our receiving your order) we will send you an email listing the titles we included.

For gifts of the Library you will receive one email listing all the titles that we included in your gift.  For a gift of the Series we send you an email every time we ship a book, telling you the title.  In all of our email notifications we include a link for each book title that will take you to a page devoted to that book which includes the cover image and provides some descriptive content.

How do you pick books for a Kid's Library?

When you order a Kid's Library we ask you to answer just a few questions about the child’s interests and reading preferences. Our expert booksellers will pick a selection of titles that will interest and delight the child and help foster his or her love of reading.

How do you wrap the different gifts?

We make the arrival of every book a special occasion, whether it's a monthly, hand-wrapped, gift in the Series or a gorgeous Library package.

Each book in the Series -- whether for an adult or a child -- arrives hand-wrapped in our custom “exclamation point” wrapping paper. The first book comes with a personalized, hand-written card with the message that you provided during the checkout process (in the "gift message" box). All additional books arrive with our special, Just the Right Book, bookmark.

The kid's and baby Libraries arrive in a colorful, sturdy, custom-made storage box and include a special gift: either a unique set of kid-tough, metal, bookends or a fun critter. The Deluxe Baby Library comes in a beautiful canvas bag that you can personalize with the baby's name. All the Libraries also include a personalized, hand-written, card with the message that you provide during the checkout process when you fill in the "gift message" box.

How do you pick books for a Baby Library?

Our goal when we put together a Library for a baby or young child is to form the foundation for the child’s library. Therefore, we select a variety of old classics and new releases that will entertain and educate a child from birth to the age of five. Make sure to let us know if your recipient has older siblings, as that is important information for us as we put together the Baby Library.

How does it work?

It's so simple:  you answer a few questions about your recipient and we do the rest, including communicating with them and inviting them to tell us more about themselves.

For gifts of the monthly Series, we send your recipient a questionnaire with the first book and ask him or her to tell us more about their preferences.  They can also log-in to our Recipient Center at any time during the life of the gift and provide more information, update their preferences, and even make specific requests for future books.

What happens if my recipient is sent a book that they have already read, or just don't like?

We do our best to select books that we think your recipient will love, but on rare occasions we may miss our target. If your recipient ever receives a book that they don’t like, or have already read, they can return the book to us and we will exchange it for another selection.  The only thing we ask is that your recipient contact us and let us know why the book wasn't right, so we can better improve our services in the future.  They can do that either by sending an email through our website to support@justtherightbook.com or they can call our toll-free number:  800-74-READS (our customer service representatives are available between 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM EST every day of the week).  Once we hear from them we will email or mail them a postage-paid return label right away and send them a replacement book.

What if I don't know the baby or child?

Don't worry! If you don't know very much just tell us what you can. Regardless, we can put together a great and beautifully wrapped collection of books.

Use any of the text boxes that appear with the questions to give us whatever information you have about the baby, child, or its family.  We have years of experience creating libraries of books for young people, and even a minimal amount of information enables us to build a wonderful collection that will come in a stunning, unforgettable package.

What if I don't know the person well?

Don’t worry!  We can still pick the first book in a Series and get more detailed preference information directly from your recipient...

After you select which Series you wish to send (Quarterly, Bi-Monthly or Monthly) you'll be presented with a few questions about your recipient. If you don't know the person well just click the “In a Hurry?” button; it bypass the questions and take you directly to the login/checkout process. 

But if you have even just a bit of information about your recipient you may use any of the text boxes that accompany the questions to share it with us. The first book in the Series arrives with information about how your recipient can access our Recipient Center where they can very easily give us more information about their reading preferences, make specific requests, or send us feedback.  We also include a printed preference form with the first book which your recipient can fill out and return to us to by mail if he or she prefers.

 

Can I specify titles to include in my gift?

Yes, if there is a specific book that you would like us to include in your recipient’s program you can tell us when you fill out the preference forms during the purchase process...
